Texas Contemporary™ Monthly: Issue 06

Sampson Building-7794.jpg

What happens when one of the region's most innovative and successful architecture firms, known for its distinctive brand of Texas Contemporary style and design, relocates their studio and offices into the most historic building along Congress Avenue in downtown Austin?

What happens is growth and excitement.

LEVY is moving into the iconic Sampson Building at 620 Congress Avenue to support our robust growth and signature work for our valued clients. From office, retail, restaurants, hotels, housing and more, LEVY is literally, on the move!

Completed in 1859, the Sampson building first housed a general merchandise store and later became home to other commercial and professional enterprises. The Italiante structure, which features arched windows and fine stonework, is designated as an Austin Historic Landmark .

LEVY will be adding its touch of style and infusion of creative energy into our new home in the next few months. We look forward to welcoming you to our inspiring space at the LEVY Open House celebration planned for early 2022.

Texas Growth in the News

From the large metropolitan centers, to the small and mid-sized towns around the state, growth is in the air. The I-35 Corridor is booming. As countless cranes are seen across the Austin skyline, other communities are also seeing exponential growth. LEVY continues to be actively involved along the corridor in much of the area's growth, including multiple projects in the Coastal Bend region, the East Village mixed-use development in Northeast Austin, and the City of Kyle, among others. We believe so much in the corridor that LEVY has joined the Greater San Marcos Partnership as Principal Investor.

Below are a few examples of how Texas is on the move.

LEVY Signature Work

Over the past two decades, LEVY has been sought out to provide architecture and interior design for projects with the intent to showcase Austin’s culture as well as create a vision for the future.

When LEVY was approached to design the Colton House Hotel by Inherit Hotel Group, the vision was to create "...a spacious private home for the adventurers, the families, and the guests who want a different hotel experience rather than one pre-scripted." and LEVY delivered. This 3-story boutique hotel sits on 1.57 acres surrounded by century-old live oaks along the popular South Congress area of Austin, Texas. Each of the 80 rooms in the hotel features extended-stay amenities such as full kitchens, washers, and dryers. Guests can also enjoy a coffee bar, a private event space with a roof terrace and views of downtown Austin, an outdoor lawn area with food truck accessibility, and a private pool for guests. Whether visiting for the weekend or needing a staycation, consider staying at the Colton House Hotel and tell them LEVY sent you.

Fast forward to today and we are excited to announce the second phase of Palo Verde at Steiner Ranch. In the first phase of Palo Verde, LEVY was asked to create a design that incorporates a material palette into the fabric of the Steiner Ranch community. The building features 34,000-square feet with 8 retail units, 2 restaurants, and office space. Exterior seating in the plaza allows tenants to host outdoor events for patrons or for visitors to relax while shopping. We managed to provide that Texas flair with a modern twist giving Palo Verde a distinct Texas Contemporary look.

As LEVY expands and begins an exciting new chapter in the heart of downtown Austin, the team is excited to welcome two new team members to the fast growing LEVY family!

Brian Conklin joins the LEVY team as an experienced Project Architect. After earning his master’s degree from Kansas State University, Brian gained experience working in Chicago on numerous residential, hospitality, and commercial projects. Since moving to Austin he has expanded on his wide range of experience, contributing to the development and completion of multiple projects throughout the Central Texas region. Brian loves exploring the technical design aspects of each project he works on and having the opportunity to shape environments through the thoughtful use of each project’s details. LEVY looks forward to working alongside Brian to create beautiful and innovative designs in the years to come.

Ashley Juarez joins our talented interiors team as our new Interior Designer. With a passion for design from an early age, Ashley was destined for the LEVY team. A graduate of the College of Architecture at the University of Texas in San Antonio, Ashley received a Bachelor’s of Science in Interior Design from the Council for Interior Design Accreditation in 2015 and was recently certified as a NCIDQ Accredited Interior Designer. With more than seven years of design experience in commercial corporate interiors, LEVY is thrilled to have Ashley as part of the team.
